OUR READERS' SAY...
Below is just a sample of the many letters we receive praising our magazine: -
It always comes as a nice
surprise when my copy of WORDS pops through the letterbox. This means
I happily skip some of the housework to make a cup of coffee and start
reading some of the stories. Knowing that other writers out there are
producing stories and having them published is inspiring and I have
even had one of mine in WORDS. The fact that the proceeds are helping
others , and ourselves with the writing practice is also gratifying.
It all adds up to a very good read for a very reasonable price.
D.Mitchell, Surrey.
Each quarter WORDS publishes a collection of stories which, though of
varying subject matter, are all accessible and generally enjoyable.
There is no highbrow, pseudo-intellectual work - just a group of good
yarns! The competition format seems to produce a good cross-section
of stories and authors
D. Pugh, Leicester.
I like the variety of themes
in the stories, the spice of life as they say, and they are not too
long that they drift one back to watching too much television. A fault
with a lot of magazine stories is they go on and on........ A worthy
little magfull of words. Ideal for the reader/writer who wants to sharpen
their critical skills, essential for honing up one's "what if"
talent. That is to say, wondering how different each story could be
written if one followed new side-tracks. Even the stories with modest
plots can serve as mind benders in this way.
H.Ainscough, Sheffield.
For me WORDS performs two
major functions. The first is perhaps almost entirely selfish. WORDS
is compiled from the entries to the regular short story competitions,
giving aspiring writers like myself a real chance....and the thrill
of seeing one's story in print. This is a real privilege, since the
market for short stories by unknown writers is abysmal today.
Dr V. Edwards, Sussex.
It is good to know I am supporting
a magazine which is contributing to a worth while cause as well as providing
a platform for writers plus interest for readers. This is an excellent
idea. As a reader, I find a fair mix of themes in this friendly magazine.
A set theme too, is often helpful in that it sparks off ideas in the
mind of the writer.
